General topic but mostly encompasses my experience as a writer.
As mentioned in an earlier post, 2023 has been the best year for Vella (for me), and I joined the program at launch, back in 2021. My first bonus was less than $50. Now my average is $600 a month. Not much to live on, but it helps pay bills and writing expenses.
HRT, therapy, and antidepressants are helping me complete writing projects.
Man poses as a lesbian to turn a profit.
TL;DR: I don't use AI to write my books, but I do use AI to help me edit my books. Writing is my biggest passion.
Several authors have already jumped ship, discouraged by low bonuses.
The current theory seems to be that Amazon is no longer factoring in updates as part of its algorithm, instead prioritizing actual engagement, such as reads, likes, etc. It would appear this was their way of counteracting ChatGPT crafted stories, which were draining bonus money from actual authors.
The desire to fill up my backlog is pretty high, and it seemed possible to write several novels in a year, but more and more I'm starting to like the idea of letting things sit before releasing.
That aside, I've been working away at my latest WIP, running my first line of edits and light revisions. I'll do a proper cover and title reveal soon, maybe this weekend?
Just some reflection of my year in publishing, along with the results of my latest (and biggest) sale.
