Plans For 2026
This year is off to an awful start, but that won't stop me from completing my goals. It's mostly the usual: write, edit, and publish one or two books.
First, I should remind people that I have stripped my books from Amazon, as I have been deeply unhappy with recent changes. You'll find more here.
Second, I want to revisit and do some touch ups for Voracity, as there are some things I am unhappy with. It won't be a full rewrite, but the aim is to trim some of the fat. ADHD brain kinda won out during previous edits, and while I was satisfied with how things came out, my mind keeps coming back to the issues. But I also have some new content to add, that being an epilogue I originally held off on, but later wrote to include in a short story collection.
That, and I thought it would cheapen things to have Frankie actually meet her metamour. I liked the idea of her as this faceless entity living rent free in their head, but maybe it would nice to have after all. Trust me, there's still room left for mystery. And potential for future short stories where they have prolonged exposure. This is a story I really love and had rattling around in my head for 20+ years, although the original is very different from the final product. Same characters, different story, etc.
It would be easy to just leave it be and walk away (for someone who doesn't get obsessed with their work, maybe), but I want to be proud of my creation and not glance at it with disdain.
Three (and on a lighter note), I will be releasing book three of Last Train Home early next month. The first book will be discounted soon after. With it primarily being a web serial, I edit as I go along. This last round I'm on right now are more to clear up any plot holes (and I found at least two...peachy), flesh out some scenes, and combine smaller chapters to make proper sized ones. Once that's done, I'd like to start drafting new chapters for season six. But!
I want to finish drafting Unplugged. I have an extensive backlog to tide me over, but I want to write while the muse is strong. And I'm so close to the ending! Or so I think, anyway. I hit a big plot point back in November, and need to address the fallout and figure out where to go from there. I may actually tackle that after doing these edits for Voracity, or in-between. Though I can't imagine what I need to do taking more than a few days...I'll have to think it over.
Once Unplugged is complete, I plan on having it professionally edited, because it is a big story with lots of interlocking parts, and I want to make sure everything is on the up and up. Having a second pair of eyes will really help the process.
Aside from Unplugged, I also started another old idea that's gone through so many changes over time. It involves vampires, but is still very early in the writing stage. Would be nice to finish it this year, but we'll see where that goes. I have stories I want to rewrite (such as I Think of You Often) and old WIPs to revisit, but I'll try to save those for next year, including the final book in the Early Adopter series.
But yeah, I've got a lot on my plate right now. I don't write for a living (I haven't made a profit since my Kindle Vella days), so I have work to distract me and have to account for self-care and mental health. But I can reliably publish a book or two a year, so that's something to look forward to.
