CH 118 — Taking A Stand
Laken's perspective.
Once again, the Queen pleaded with Laken to take up the role of Commander, and again, Laken declined. In a time of peace and surplus, a Commander would carry little weight outside of name and status.
Oh, and more meetings. Nobles loved stuffy meetings about the price of grain and expanding trade routes. Laken sat in on such meetings in their days as a mere squire, jotting down notes while their master played bedbug with his lover.
They begrudgingly attended a more stimulating meeting with the Queen, several of her advisors, and a few trusted knights. Minogue was notably absent, despite being summoned. Laken spoke on his behalf, claiming the poor chap was suffering from runny bowels and explosive flatulence.
He could thank them later.
This latest meeting revolved around the rundown Ashford, and the long thought defunct mine. No monsters had resurfaced since the group of knights were sent to guard the area, but they were growing restless, especially now that it was winter.
