CH 111 - The Road To Saincaster
Meike caught their first snowflake of the year days later, while on the road. Their hands were sore from fending off boars and chopping wood, but that lone snowflake gave them some relief, the one bit of whimsy one could find in this weather. Meike wanted to stop and rest, but Cass was reluctant to set up camp.
And so they found ways of keeping warm, relying on magic to thaw out chilled hands and other extremities. When that failed, they retreated indoors and curled up in bed with their familiars. But nothing beats the comfort of a roaring fire.
It was a great relief when the storm finally broke, caking the landscape with heavy snowdrifts and sheets of ice. The roads were beyond saving at that point, more fit for sledding or skating than riding. Cass claimed the main roads were well-maintained and cleared on the daily, but smaller, remote areas handled their own affairs.
